Venture capitalists have all but moved out of early-stage investing, and angels—typically, wealthy individual investors willing to provide initial seed money to a company—have an entrepreneurial spirit that attracts them to startups. We see angel networks filling a growing need for investments in early-stage companies between $500,000 and $2 million. Research shows that regions with organized angel groups make larger investments and tend to reinvest more often.

Lancaster Angel Network

The Lancaster Angel Network is a group of successful business people that meets monthly to review companies in a wide variety of industries and businesses of all sizes. The meeting is held over dinner and is preceded with a cocktail mixer. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month, except in August.

Southwest Pennsylvania Angel Network

SPAN—the Southwest Pennsylvania Angel Network—is an organization that connects angel investors seeking early-stage investment opportunities with the region's most promising startup technology companies. Each quarter, two companies are selected to present their business plans to SPAN members who then have the opportunity to evaluate the organizations for potential investment.

Susquehanna Investment Network

The Susquehanna Investment Network (SIN) is a group of 57 highly successful business people with a wide variety of member skill sets bases around business and manufacturing. The angel investors represent 11 counties in Central Pa. referred to as the "Pa. Heartland" and meet the third Wednesday of each month. Meetings start with a networking reception followed by presentations during dinner. The average investment range is from $25,000 to $500,000.
